I am going to college to the US. It is not a very expensive school, it is only like 16,000$ in tuition but other expenses are 23,000$, so I have to prove I have 39,000$ available for each year. Colleges and the consulate ask you to show proof in the form of funds or sponsor's incomes.
In my case, I don't have enough money in the bank, only for like two years (80k), so I would need a sponsor.
My first sponsor would be my mother, who only has me. She only supports two people (me and herself). She doesn't have a mortgage or any serious debt. So since she only has one dependent (and herself), would the consulate believe her if she told that she would contribute 1/2 her income to my studies and living expenses in the US? Because in reality she is going to contribute that much. She would spend half the money on her and half the money on me, which I think is reasonable. But I don't know if a visa officer would accept 1/2 her income as proof of funds.
Then I have an uncle who is also willing to sponsor me. He makes about 60,000$ with three dependents. I know the most he would be believed to contribute to my education/living expenses is 20k (1/3 of income) but given his three children, I don't know if the amount should be less.
I ask this because I really don't want to make a huge loan from a bank. My uncle would be giving me like 15k yearly and then I have to repay him. Is 15k a reasonable amount for him to contribute to my education and living expenses?
Thank you
