Working as a Mortgage Adviser with criminal convictions?

So I have been thinking of doing my ceMAP exams and becoming qualified to become a mortgage adviser. Only problem is that I have a conviction for supplying a Class B drug, does this automatically mean that I am unemployable as a mortgage adviser because if it is then it is a waste of me to invest time and money getting my ceMAP qualification.
Added (1). And if you answer tell me how you know (maybe your an employer or work in a bank) and if I can't work as an adviser now isn't there a period of time after which the conviction is considered spent?
