Purchase home as primary residence while renting efficiency close to work?

My husband and I are separated we won't finalize the divorce til I'm out of school (about 2 years). We have 3 kids. I live with our kids in a small town about 45 miles from his work and efficiency. We basically trade places on weekends and holidays. I live in a dump. Id like to move right now the current agreement is he pays most of my child support directly to the landlord for our rent. I love the town we live in and I want to be here forever, his thought process is to purchase a house. I have no income so he would be on his own. Can he get an FHA loan even though he would only be in it weekends and some holidays? He understands that would make him totally responsible. We would hope in divorce proceedings after I'm working to get the house transferred solely to me. We plan to disclose everything to mortgage co. I just dont want to get my hopes up. Thanks!
