Why does everyone want to live in New York City?

So many young people move to the city. The city is overcrowded, expensive, everything is overpriced, the streets are dirty and full of homeless people, and it seems like the only thing people do at night (after midnight) is drink, which I hate. Like everything closes by midnight except bars and clubs, so there's nothing else to do, especially for those under 21. And at clubs, its hard to meet new people cause everyone there is part of a pre-programed clique and don't want to hookup, they just want to dance then leave. Name one other thing to do after midnight.

What disturbs me is that I could get a 7 bedroom mansion further west that costs less than a studio apartment in the city. I guarantee you my 2 bedroom house is bigger than the most expensive apartment in New York and its not even considered a mansion.
