Are there any decent jobs that involve helping the less fortunate?

I'm involved in a few school programs and outside organisations. I feel this is my thing? I've been doing it for a few years and I can say I want to pursue a career in this path. But then I kind of need to be realistic because I have a mortgage I need to help my mum with.
