What happened was I applied for a mortgage last month with halifax as I have a savings account with them and they are supposed to be good if your a first time buyer. I got rejected as I have no credit nor do I have a credit card so that was my first rejection then the woman recommended I applied for a credit card with halifax to help build my credit so I booked an appointment for that. I got rejected again but the woman didn't say the reason why she just told me to transfer my current account from TSB to halifax and open up an overdraft account since I wasn't eligible for a credit card account and it could help me build credit by not using it and in about 6 months I should apply again for a credit card and I might be accepted. I'm really stuck because I have all of the deposit ready to buy a house but I need a credit card to build credit and I've been rejected and obviously I don't want to keep applying as it'll make me look desperate. Please could someone help me suggest ways to build my credit as I was thinking of just transferring everything back to TSB as i've been with them for a few years and then try applying for a credit card with them then if I'm successful keep buying the weekly shopping and paying it all back on time then in a years time apply for a mortgage?
