My mother transferred her house to my brother and me. Although the transfer she signed just before she died said free and clear with the exception of a loan to the local city government. Now the city says we owed the mortgage when she died. I want to sign my half to my brother for $5,000 and let him sell it, pay off the loan and keep the proceeds.
