A co-worker had a stroke at work. He was out for several weeks. When he returned, he was given a plan to improve his attendance because he did not fill out fmla paperwork and miss more days than he was allowed. No one told him about this paperwork. The company said it isn't worth getting an attorney because they can send him to their own doctor and have him declared "unfit" for work. I am due for surgery for something that is not life threatening but causes me discomfort. I'm afraid to go ahead with it because something unforeseen could happen and put me out of work longer. I would fill out fmla papers if that happened but Im scared. Also, I am afraid to take even a day if I am sick because they are so rigid.
