Can anyone advise me on renting?

i have been a divorced parent living mortgage free for 3 years as our home is going under. I have never been a financial person and stupidly allowed my ex to take care of that. We need to be out of our home in the next 4 months and I have no clue how much to budget for rent. What percent? I have 2 children and pets and car payments etc.
