How can people say having a job is better than no job at all?

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Finance. I come from an affluent family so finance is not a problem for me and I am good in managing my money, I have literally no debt. This job market is tough and it seems like the crappy jobs that high school drop outs wouldn't even dip their toes are attracted to me. How can having a job unrelated to your field even help you? When I interned for a global investment firm, the commercial local banks saw it as a downfall because the work was different compared to theirs and therefore did not hire me for that reason. As a student, we accepted any internship opportunity because we got credit for it and I was lucky to get paid yet it still didn't help me get into the field I want. It would be a huge step back for me if my resume went from intern of a global investment bank to a dumb ***** working at an insurance firm.
