Is this escrow refund mine to spend?

I sold my house a month ago of about 5 years and moved. Yesterday I got a decent check in the mail stating that it s a refund from my escrow account from my old house. Is this money mine to spend? Or am I going to be hit with some prorated tax bill end of year?
