How to prepare to move into your first home? I have about 6-8 months to prepare?

So I m planning on moving out of my parents house and I m looking to buy my own house, assuming I can find one that is both cheap and well maintained enough. I already have a roommate, and possibly a third as well. They would not have their names on the house, but just pay rent to me instead.
I just need some pointers and tips on things that I might need, and maybe some info on mortgages as well.
