Can you have a roommate if you buy an apartment?

Let s say theoretically I bought an apartment, not renting. It s a ONE bedroom apartment… Can I let a friend live with me and he pays me rent even though I bought the apartment and can (comfortably) pay off the mortgage no problem (credit score over 800 if that helps) ? I know if I were to lease it it would be a problem and I probably won t be allowed to do so by the landlord but if I bought the apartment would I be able to do whatever I want and let whoever I want to room with me? It s only one person who will room with me
