Is it ok to take a 1l corsa on the motorway?

Myself and my partner own a 1l corsa which he uses to get back from Essex to the South coast every weekend. Recently the camshaft snapped - so after repairs I am obviously a bit wary. I have been assured that this is just a 1 off unlucky incident but the mechanic did also mention that for regular long journeys, a bigger engine would be more beneficial and suitable. This is something we have thought about, however, as we are both 21 and my boyfriend is a soldier, insurance is high as it is. The plan for this car was that it would do us for a year to 18 months in order for him to get a couple of years no claims so that we can afford the insurance on a bigger engine next year. Also, as we were not sure where he would be based at the time of buying, we just wanted to get a cheap run around to sort us for a short period.

I just wanted some advice as to whether a 150 mile journey twice a week is likely to damage engine significantly in the next year or if, theoretically, it should last for that long until we are in a better position financially.

I should also mention that we are looking at getting a mortgage next year so would ideally like to try and cope until we get accepted for a mortgage before getting any finance deals on a new car.

I am aware that using a 1l corsa for this purpose probably isnt the most fuel efficient, but I just want some advice as to whether the car is likely to survive until next year really

thanks
