My H06 insurance provider just lied to me. Is there a government agency I can report this to?
I'm doing a refi on my mortgage and I got a random email from my insurance provider (It's a big insurance provider… Not one of the cheap ones). They said that my mortgagee requested an increase in insurance on my behalf. It would cost $xx. And did they have permission to make the change?
I wrote back immediately and asked if this was a common thing because no one from the bank or the title company has contacted me about this. She wrote back very quickly and reconfirmed that it was the bank that made the request and that it was a very common thing to happen.
Meanwhile I called my lender at the bank and told her about the email. She called the funder and they didn't request an increase. She Cc'd me in the email to the title company. None of them requested an increase. One of them said she contacted them only to confirm that I had valid insurance.
At first I was angry because I thought my lender went over my head with my insurance company when all they had to do was ask me, but none of them are requiring that I purchase more insurance. I emailed that insurance adjuster again and asked her point blank for the information/name/email address of the person that made this increase request. While she got back to my first email in a few minutes, she hasn't responded to my second email in an hour. I'm still waiting for a response, but I believe that my insurance adjuster just bald faced lied to me to get more money out of me.
