Changing jobs before applying for a mortgage?

My fiance has worked at his current job for 5 years. He s also spent the last year in a trade school to shift his profession. We re looking to start the homebuying process next summer, but he s looking to change careers at the beginning of next year. So let s say 6 months prior to the homebuying process. Currently, he s a low-voltage alarm tech, and his new job would be a high-voltage electrician. Similar, but not the same. The new job would be higher paying and like I said, he went to school for it. We plan on talking to a bank or someone as well, but I m just looking for general feedback. Should he wait to change jobs? I ve heard you re not supposed to, but I ve also heard that sometimes it doesn t matter.

We ll be buying together and I ve had the same job for 2 years and I m not switching.
