How to apply for loan for graduate school?

I was fortunate not to use loans during undergrad. Graduate school is more expensive and I do not have that luxury anymore. My dad makes too much for government loans, however, we have two mortgages so it does siphon a lot of his income. I am worried about the interest rate for a private loan. I believe we can afford to pay part of the semester's tuition. Perhaps $8,000 and we are probably left with $7000.
