I am 27 a newly grad and also in few months I will be marrying.
I do have a house but have a lot of mortgage to pay (60%).
I do have a car which is worth about $20000 now and it is fully paid off.
I do have an entry banking job,
but I will be returning to school for my masters after the marriage so I will be student again.
For my wedding, my fiance and mother-in-law is willing to buy me a Rolex submariner
which cost around $10000 for my wedding gift.
This is my dream watch and always have been my watch of my dreams,,,
however it also feels like it is 'too much' for my current financial situation.
I am keep thinking,
Maybe I can just receive it in cash and save it in my savings for future or pay mortgage.
On the other hand, I feel like it can be my first and last watch,
and just like an engagement ring, the watch could be something meaningful.
Rolex does hold up its value well, but just want your own opinion on my situation.
Thanks
Added (1). Thank you for your honest answers.
The watch is going to be purchased 70% by MIL and the rest by my fiance.
And it is considered a 'gift' for my wedding, since my fiance will be living in the house
I purchased and also use my car although it is getting old.
My fiance earns not too bad salary (around 120000/yr) but does not have much savings right now and she is expecting to retire when she gets a baby and go back to work after 3-4 years.
All in all, thank you for your suggestions!
Added (2). By reading the comments, I realize that in general, the rolex is a bit too much.
I just wanted a meaningful gift for my life time event,
however I guess I can go down few levels and get a Tag or Omega.
Thank you very much for your opinions!
