May I have your advice/thoughts on purchasing a home while active duty?

I'll try to keep this as short as possible. My husband and I are both active duty Air Force members (we have both been in for 8 years, married for 6 years, no children and no rush to have children). We are due to PCS in about 8 months and have been considering buying depending on where our next duty location is. When we PCS, it will be our 4th duty location in less than 9 years. Are we crazy to think about buying since we don't seem to stay out for long? Our last assignment was in San Antonio and we loved it there and would absolutely consider buying if we got back there (or Washington, Arizona, or Colorado). Some places seem to be good areas for finding renters/tenants also…

Seems like buying is cheaper than renting in a lot of places but we know that owning a home is a lot more responsibility and money in the long run. However, if we're going to be paying anyways, why not put it toward our own home instead of paying someone else's mortgage? I'm curious to know what you guys think or if you have any advice to offer.

We have been saving for years, we have no debt…NONE. Both have good credit. Not sure if we would use a VA loan or not. Do you think that if we do decide to buy we should place impotence on a good school district (and thus pay more money) even though we have no children and really aren't concerned about the schools? Or would it be better to find the best anyways thinking ahead to potential renters/buyers/families if we need to move?

Thanks in advance!
Added (1). *stay put for long
*importance, not impotence lol…sorry about that
