Last Friday, I received word from a potential employer that I was being offered a position for which I had applied about three weeks ago after a face-to-face interview that took place early last week. This is some of the best news I've had in awhile.
Employer is the local office for a US-based multinational health insurance company. Position works with contracts and benefits. It's non-managerial and there is no access to company assests or handling of company money. All departmental employees are issued a laptop so remote work can be done. No security clearance required.
Hire Right does their background checks. I don't know if a credit check is included in this, and that's what worries me. I went through a divorce four years ago, and my credit since then has been really bad. While I've continued to pay my mortgage, I went into default on my student loans. The cut in income from the divorce was a big blow and I could only pay so much.
I'm currently three months into loan rehab with the Department of Education. But on Saturday, I received notice that a medical bill from 2011 that had gotten mis-reported to my insurance has been turned over to collections. I doubt that I'll be able to make that one disappear before I'm required to submit the background check information.
My criminal background is squeaky clean, but I'm afraid that a credit check might cause me to lose this job before I even have it. Has anyone ever been in this position, and what ended up happening?
