Financial help needed, any advice is appreciated?!

Ok so this is my long story. My dad maxed out credit cards… And to start over my parents filed a consumer proposal to pay off their debt. Everything is fine and dandy and my parents want to refinance their mortgage and change lender to get some cash for renovations. Their mortgage with the first lender expired november and nov 4 they accidentally payed the new years mortgage with first lender. Because their broker misguided them, they now owe $10,000 + lawyer fees which they do not have! WHAT DO THEY DO NOW? We have next to no assets and im really worried
