How does child mortgage work with children?

My mom and dad left eachother when I was maybe 8. Something like that. Now i'm 16. My mom and my step dad are getting a divorce. I'm sitting in my room and my mom and step dad are fighting. It's a bit muffled but I heard my step dad say "I'm counting on him for mortgage." I know the human mind makes us a bit self centered in who we think conversations are directed too… I'm also not super clear on the legal aspect of having children and the money that relates that it. When me and my mom move out is there a set amount of money he's not getting anymore? I just need someone to explain how this works to me. If I ask either of them about it I'll just stir up more ****.
