Can you squat to own?

A lot of people are getting frustrated with paying rent and home mortgages so they are taking advantage of squatting at abandoned homes, fixing them up, paying the tax and trying to own them eventually by a law called adverse possession. I want to do this 'squat to own' trend. How would I go about doing this successfully and as legally as possible without getting trouble?

California Franchise Board Question?

So I recently received a series of letters from the board saying that I owe taxes about 1K from 2015 from a mortgage payment which I made. In reality, I never made a mortgage payment in 2015 since I was going to school full time plus in addition I was and am currently living with my parents and don't any form house payments. In this case what do I do, has anybody gone through this similar scenario? I've called and waited 3 hours to get and answer but resolution has come out of it.

Why can't I just build a house in the woods and be a happy homeowner?

I believe it is my human right to build a house in the woods and claim it as my property without any interference by the government. What ever happened to the people's right to the land? I should be able to at least build the house, claim the unused parcel of land as my own and then register it with the government and pay tax like the good ol' days. Why are we forced to break our backs and suffer through a mortgage, or try to save hundreds of thousands to buy a house? There's something wrong with our system. If I went and built a house in the woods the police would come and tear it down. But why should they? It's unused land that I should be able to claim as mine. The United States government has violated all of our rights and forced us into a slave system!

Can I buy a house without a mortgage?

So I want to buy a house but, I don't need a loan. I can't pay it fully in cash though. I can put down most of the down payment and finish paying the house off in 2-3 months. I would wait and gather the money but I need to move as soon as possible. So is it possible for me to put the down payment and pay for the rest montly but without a mortgage? I ask because mortgage come in 5 year+ terms and I can finish paying in cash in 3 months max.

I own a couple rental houses. I don't have a mortgage on them and I wanted to avoid paying capital gains when I sell. (I will make about 50k over purchase price) someone told me I could take a mortgage out on them before I sell them, hold the money in my bank account and then when I go to sell my "profit" would be minimal or maybe even a loss on paper. Is this legal? Can I do this?

2 UNIT CONDO (21) YRS. Without having Umbrella Policy?

My unit had fire. (condo ho ins. Policy covered damages) other unit wants umbrella which is ok with me. We should have one its part of rules. Last yr we were to get Umbrella but the policy excluded pitbull mix & included their home business. Cov (against rules) Husband put as head of the condo assoc, & bound the policy. Afterwards they gave me 2 pgs of policy & my share of bill on a piece of paper (when asked to see the complete policy agent or unit owner ignored me so I didn't pay. This yr. I was given a quote same agency my name excluded, dog excluded the HO is listed with husbands name & wife is listed as trustee. Not that it matters she is no longer listed on the title/deed on the condo anymore (weird). I want to get Umbrella but i don't understand what is going on with the policy if I don't see all the info. If I get caught in a lie I will lose my current ins. & no ins. No mortgage plus i might be paying for something not related to HOA. They still not giving me the whole policy info even though i asked for it & neither will the agency that wrote it. Sorry long story.

Why is that is seems in the housing market that a smaller home more often means older or bad area?

We're looking to down size as we reach retirement but our search for a smaller more maintainable home has lead us to two conclusions, one being a condo/town house arrangement that come with a lot of expense aside from the mortgage HOA Fees being the main additional cost that can be higher than the monthly mortgage payment. Or the second a really bad area were homes are neglected and crime is ramped. So my question is what dose one do remain in a 2500 SQ home in a relatively good area that could go to a family that needs the space or move to an over prices condo and live in a shoe box or to a questionable area we also do not want to spend our retirement on a 200 + thousand dollar mortgage either is this the case only in Raleigh NC or is it nation wide?

Renting or buying in this situation?

I live in Canada. My mom and I pay $950 with rent and everything included (and repairs and maintanence are included). We live in a small, quiet 3-storey building and we're on the top floor. We also have hardwood floors and they are renovating the balcony, roof and upgrading the windows soon. Since we live in a good, high class neighbourhood, the homes here are minimum $500,000 meaning the mortgage payment would be around$2000-$2500. So at least over $1000 more than we're paying now. My mom thinks we save a lot of money by renting. What do you think?

I live in a high class neighbourhood and rent a 2 bedroom apartment with my mother for $899 plus hydro which is $41 . We live in a small, quiet 3 floor brick building on the top floor, it has hardwood floors and is getting balcony renovations soon and the roof done and new windows. The houses in the neighbourhood are at least $500,000 (the cheapest one) meaning we would have to pay $2000-$2500 monthly if we get a mortgage. Does it make sense for us to rent in this situation? Mortgage Possibility?

This is kind of a two-part question. First: the bank we're gonna use is Regions, if that helps at all. My boyfriend and I want to buy a house in 2 months. But we both work minimum wage jobs (we've both gotten raises since $7.25, but to give some perspective) and I'm the only one who's recently started to establish credit. To keep from telling anything personal, let's just say he can't start building credit right now, so he has none. Will going in to get a mortgage together with how much we both make but also with his nonexistent credit lower, raise, or not affect our chances of getting approved? It doesn't matter how much (but, if you wanna try and estimate, feel free! Lol) Also, however the previous question was answered, pretend that's how we determined how to approach the bank with the best chance (either together or just myself), how high of a chance will it be we get approved? Again, it doesn't matter to us how much; we just want to know if it's possible. Please no relationship/financial advice. Also, I know it depends sometimes, just give your best guess! Thanks in advance!

Purchasing a house on ODSP

I'm an Ontario resident and disabled. My fiance is also disabled, but has not been offered disability yet, and tries to work part time.

I have been reading, and from what I have been reading we're able to purchase a home on ODSP, or at least I'm.

We're currently living in a rental house for 1000 a month, with terrible conditions but due to the landlord not doing a lease with us, and us not wanting to remain here, we're considering doing a house.

We can't find a house under 1200 plus utilities, and think it is stupid to be paying of somebody elses mortgage.

I have a service dog, my fiance has a mobility dog, and I have a pet dog. My pet dog was a gift before my grandmother died of cancer, so I will not consider rehoming. It costs nothing to feed them before thats brought up.

I'm wondering, how long have you been on ODSP before you could apply for a mortgage?

How did you go about doing this, do I need to see a special bank?

We have been seeing a lot of houses for way under 200,000 with a good chunk of property and want to obtain one, so I can keep busy. I like to do yard work.

I'm just wondering how soon I can get everything in motion.

I will be using a pay out I'm having my doctor sign for as the down payment, as I have a condition that has a 20,000 savings account for these things.

I appreciate any advice.
Added (1). We will be saving for any repairs, and I have an inheritance in 7 years that I want to put towards a mortgage as well.

Should we move in with my in laws long term?

I married into a Hispanic family. No that does not matter but they do tend to have close family ties and they like to have multiple generations under one house hold. His family wants to buy a bigger home. (3000sq ft) and we would live in a big room on one side of the house (my MIL has already showed me pictures of a potiential house) and the other bedrooms are on the other side. It's a very sweet thought that they would want to live with us for awhile seeing as most parents want their kids out As soon as possible. However his mother is very strict and i don't know I'm not sure what to do. This would most likely be for a very long time. I'm 23 and my husband is 24. We're both finishing up school and planning on grad school. We would probably stay there and help them pay for the house for a minimum of 5 years. We would buy our own household items, food etc and we're splitting the bills and mortgage based on everyone who lives there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Parents are upset I'm buying a house 30 minutes away?

My fiancé and I are getting married in August 2019 and have started to look for our first home together (currently, we both live at home with our parents).

Ideally, we both want to stay in our current neighbourhood, but the area we re in is very trendy and well-developed, and the reality is that we just can't afford a house nearby (the rough average of a semi-detached is around $800 K).

Because of the sky-high prices, we ve started looking in other areas that are within driving distance. We found a growing community we both really like, where the average price of a semi-detached is around $550k. It's only a 30 minute drive from where both our families live, and while my fiancé s family understands the need for the move due to budget restrictions, my parents have taken to calling me "stupid" and "irresponsible" for even considering moving outside our area.

I've tried telling them that we have to do what's best for us because it's our names on the mortgage, but they re furious because moving 30 minutes away will mean that any future children we have will be enrolled in a daycare, and "why would we want a random person watching our kids" when my mother is home to do it.

I get that they want to be near their grandkids when they eventually arrive, but repeatedly yelling at me and calling me stupid is really wearing me down. I feel stressed out and defeated, and I know it's starting to wear on my fiancé too.

Help on what to do?

Could I get approved for a mortgage? Good credit, decent down-payment, but changed jobs and didn't make much the last two years?

I'm wondering if it is worth my time to make an appointment regarding a mortgage or if I'm an automatic no. I worked at Sobeys for 5 years during high school (full time in summer, part time during school), and moved to another province to take a better paying job for last summer. I returned home for schooling and was receiving unemployment at that time, but withdrew due to my anxiety, and returned to the better paying province and got a permanent full time position, 44 hours per week (2.5 overtime) making $21 an hour, going up to $25 in about two weeks when my three month probation is over (I know I wouldn t get approved while on probation but the owner loves me and says I'm a great worker, so its basically over anyway)
I can put 20,000-25,000 down and have great credit. My student loans will be about $450 per month and I have no other loans. The only thing is the last two years my employment varied and while in school I wasn't making much--maybe 10,000 in 2016 and 20,000 in 2017. My employment is full time permanent now, but I don't know if that is enough.
I could put my partner on as well as he makes roughly double what I do, but he recently bought a home and I've heard its more difficult to get a second mortgage -- but he has bad credit and barely qualified for his first-had to put 20 percent down.

Does a mortgage APR exist for the life of the mortgage?

The APR is the fees (e.g., origination fees, points, etc.) expressed as a rate so that you can compare lenders and make a good decision. However, how come the APR is for the "life of the mortgage", if the fees are only paid ONLY in the first year of the mortgage. I.e., there are no origination fees, points, etc. In subsequent years of the mortgage. Is there something missing here? How come the APR is for the life of the loan, or is the APR only used to compare the fees for the first year of the mortgage?
Added (1). Thank you for those who answered. The best answer gave the missing piece of information. APR is only used to compare the cost of OBTAINING the loan, not for the life of the loan. That clarified many things! Thanks!

Question about buying house with purchase plus improvements Mortgage. - Quebec?

If we were to buy a house from a family member which lets say is valued at $600,000 and they would like to sell it to us for $300,000. In the purchase we would be putting an extension for them to live in. Our question, should we get a mortgage for Purchase Plus improvements, and if so, how much is it likely you could get for such a change? Or would it make more sense to simply pay the family member more and have then fund the change? (Ignoring any issues that could arise from that arrangement and simply looking from a dollars perspective please)

At the same time we're wanting to buy a home. My concern is that if we apply for the loan BEFORE the house it will affect our DTI ratios with buying a home. Will settling with creditors help me get hired?

I have about $20,000 in credit card debt. I became delinquent on all of it in 2017 due, in part, to nonpayment of a decent amount of money I was owed for a project and a poorly written contract. Most or all of it has been charged off.

I agreed to a 5-year payment arrangement with one creditor last year because I was advised they were likely to sue and have been faithful in paying it. I also have a mortgage in good standing and some student loans listed as "Pays as agreed" with a payment amount of $0. (I expect the student loans to be discharged by May or so.)

I'm now being sued by one of my creditors for about $10,000 owed on two cards.

If I can settle these two accounts before the creditor gets a judgment, will that help my chances of employment at all? Or would it be a waste of money in terms of helping my job search, considering everything else on my credit report?

What if I agree to settle all of my delinquent accounts? Is this type of thing seen as better than not paying at all or as weaseling out of what you owe? Or am I pretty much out of luck no matter what I do at this point?

Giving up work and stay at home mum?

When the person whose name the property is not held in has contributed financially to the property mortgage payments. The property is owned in one person's name, it is still possible for the other partner to prove they are entitled to a share if they split up?

I have been living with my boyfriend for 8 years. And now we having a baby. He inherited some money from his family and use it as deposit for the house. And now we both living in his house. Every month he asked me for money towards the mortgage and bills. Which is fine I'm on maternity leave. And now my maternity leave coming to an end. He asked me to stay home and look after the baby and only work 1 day a week and only give him half of what I normally pay towards the bill but not the mortgage. He did mention and for that reason I have no contribution towards the mortgage. So I said " fine am going back to work then! We both just take inturn looking after the baby. " He said " No. " So, what is my options for both of us that call fair? Please advice.

Questions about mortgages and mortgage-backed securities?

First of all, don't banks who originate mortgages have little/nothing to lose, since they collect the house as collateral if the borrower defaults?

Secondly, if someone owns a mortgage-backed security, does the bank who originated the mortgage collect the house proceeds in case of default, or do the MBS owners collect it?

Thirdly, how exactly do MBS work? If an MBS simply transfers the rights to collect mortgage payments, then what is the difference between an MBS and the secondary mortgage market?

How much money do you have left over at the end of every month after paying all bills. Mortgage, car payment, gas, electricity, food, fuel?

I'm 20 years old and i'm saving to buy a house. I'm aiming for a 20k deposit on a home. I will be moving out with my girlfriend, between the both of us we will earn around 25k per year.
I'm just curious to see how much money people have left over at the end of every month to save.
We also plan to buy a house for around 140-150k.
We don't live a luxury lifestyle, not been on holiday for a long time, occasionally have a long weekend away here and there but nothing to costly.
Would really appreciate any answers as i'm trying to build some knowledge of what to expect and how much month i could save monthly in my own home.
Don't think i have left anything else out, thanks looking forward to reading some of the replies. 😀

Is it at all possible to get a home load if no one in the household currently has a regular job?

I don't know how my grandmother managed to get away with it in our current house, but maybe it was because she was a carer to my great-grandmother at the time. I found a house in our area that is a lot cheaper meaning we'd have a very low repayment if we sold our current house (literally $86!). The only problem is that I'm a full-time student and I haven't managed to find a job yet. I have a good amount in savings, but I don't think that matters to the bank even if it is enough to cover the entire mortgage if needed. Do you think that the bank that's supporting my grandmother currently would give her a new mortgage if she sells our current house since the repayments would be far cheaper anyway and we'd be able to send payments on time in comparison to our current situation? I know nothing on this subject, but it would be a huge weight of her shoulders if we could get this other house. It's over $240000 cheaper than the house we live in now…
Added (1). We live in Australia if that makes any difference.
Added (2). I meant home *loan. Oops.

My dad keeps asking for money?

I started working 6 months ago and I really wanted to help my family, but my dad is really bad with money and keeps asking for more and more. Last time he asked me for $600 to pay "bills" until I found out he got a paint job on his bike. Now he is unemployed and needs 300 to pay for his mortgage( even though I gave him $100 two days ago. I didn't care before but I think he's abusing, even my uncle says so. I just turned 18 and I'm making $2400 a month, but can't save. And I think it's his fault, because I only spend money on food($50 week) and rent($50 week). I only have 2k in savings, even though I don't have any responsibilities, and only spend 100-200 a week on myself. I want to go to college and buy a car but he doesn't seem to care.

How long does a mortgage company have to collect on a loan that was lost or forgotten?

If you have a mortgage but during the housing crisis your mortgage kept getting sold to different lenders and somehow it was lost or forgotten, how long does the mortgage company have to go after you if they find the loan?

The last mortgage payment you made was in 2008. It was a jumbo mortgage for about $450,000. You received no bills or notifications. The mortgage loan shows that it was paid off on your credit report and there's no other mortgage loan. And a title company search shows no liens on the house.

You sold the house and got all of the money since there was no lien and you bought a new house with the cash. If the mortgage is somehow "found" today can they do anything about it? Can they put a lien on your new house? Can they charge you interest for the 10 years they did not bill you?

You received notice from your old lender that you mortgage being sold but you never received anything from any subsequent lenders.
Added (1). I just remembered that a long time ago, a lien was place on a condo I had because of the previous owner and the title insurance company took care of it. Could that happen here where a lien could be place on my old house that has a new owner but the title company pays it?

Is one credit card enough to build credit for a mortgage?

Currently, I only have one credit card.

I know that it takes two years of credit history to be eligible to apply for a FHA loan.

Would my one credit card, with a good credit score be enough?
