Should I buy my own place, or stay with folks?

I'm 24 and single. My folks are quite elderly and aren t as physically able as most parents of people my age, so my spare time when not at my 9 til 5 is filled with looking after them and the house.

As a result of a tragic death in my family, I've been left with £30k.
My folks now own the house we re in.

They want me to stay with them and would rather sell this house (it's gone up by around £50k since they bought it, so it's now around £170k) and have me put the £30k in so we can live in a better place.

I'm tempted to either buy a small place in not such a great area for £30k, put my DIY to use there, sell, buy another place of my own. Or put a deposit down and mortgage for somewhere more decent, but I only earn £14k after tax a year and have a car.

I have no one to ask, as everyone just says "up to you". Anyone have any better advice?

How people often cite better school district as a reason to move somewhere?

Let's say you don't have kids…
(either they're grown or you never had them to begin with)…

would you move to a city/suburb that is known for having a bad school district?

I mean; it's cheaper… Saves money on rent, or mortgage, or whatever…

but is there more to the equation than just the schools?

if a neighborhood has a lousy school district…
is it also very likely that;
they have a high crime rate?

Does poor school system usually mean high crime rate? Are the two issues synonymous?

What is going on with this real estate listing?

Thie real estate listing above says:
-- "This property was foreclosed and now the lender is selling it for $281,238." and:
-- "Foreclosed: The lender, ABN AMRO MORTGAGE GROUP INC, has taken ownership of this property through a foreclosure auction for the amount of."

HOWEVER, it ALSO says:

"04/20/2018 $51,097 The owner of this property has been served a Notice of Sale. The property is scheduled to be sold at a foreclosure auction on 04/20/2018."

As of this writing, the auction date, 04/20/2018, is over two and a half months in the FUTURE. Does this mean the property is still open to preforeclosure negotiations with the owner, or is the foreclosure completed?

Mortgage cosigner question?

I have been thinking of buckling down getting a second job if I do it right I will have the money down in 3 years and if I move my long standing roommate in with me it will be a total income of around 3000 grand a month is that enough what kind of protection could I give him against ever being evicted not that I would but I fell as though it would ease his mind if he has to cosign in them wanted out could it screw me over even if I still stayed current with the payments would he have any rights to sell my house what would be the deal with that I could get the house payed off faster and easier if I put our rent expenses into the house I checked and could afford a 30 year mortgage with no problems though of course my idea is to put 1200 a month instead of 450 a month with the minumum payment being a sefty met would I need to keep both jobs with a pre tax income of 1800 a month or could I quit my second job after I come up with the down payment making an income of 1200

How do I legally evict my cousin who is renting a room/bathroom in my home? We have no written contract. What are my timeframes?

I purchased a 2 bed/2.5 bath condo in California 2 years ago. My mortgage is $2200 utilities/HOA $600 a month.

I allowed my 28 year old cousin to live with me for $500/month, without paying utilities (she s going to school and I wanted to help). She said she d pay more when she finished school. Well it's been two years and since she s decided to continue school for another 2+ years. I asked her to pay me more $750/month. We had an argument over this and now I want her out of my house.

Please help me with Legal advice for California law. I'm going to try and evict her tomorrow by verbal means but if she refuses, I d like to know my next step.

Also, I already know it was stupid of me to not have a written agreement. You just never expect family to use you, but I was naive.

Thanks!

BITCOIN IS NOT THE ONLY CRYPTOCURRENCY THAT CAN MAKE YOU RICH. THIS COIN TOO WILL

Most of you, if not all, have by now heard or have a little knowledge about crypto currencies after the bitcoin craze last year. A lot of people invested huge sums of money, taking out mortgages, school loans, life savings and reaped big. But not everyone was lucky as others lost just as much.
You don't have to invest a million dollars to be rich. The greedy people that want to be millionaires overnight end up loosing everything. If i told you right now that you can invest just $100 and in 2 years you would be living a completely different life would you take my word for it?
They say it seems impossible until someone else does it. What's stopping you from being that someone? Bitcoin as we all know it is too expensive to buy for a lot of people, being currently valued at $12000. Good news is its not the only cryptocurrency that can make you rich. That is why i want you to spare just $100 and go buy the BIT4G coin here https://www.bit4g.com/index.php?ref=cryptoclaus currently valued at $1.50. With just $100 you will have 150 coins. Hold them for as long as you want, but whatever you do don't sell them. You can check its price regularly as they slate to join coinmarketcap this January and the coin will jump to $50.
Come here after 2 years and like this article.
That's all folks.

How much money will you have spent by the end of the day today?

In theory, nothing. In reality, here's the breakdown:
Mortgage: $35
Internet: $3
Car Insurance:
$2 Homeowners Insurance: $5.50 Property taxes: $14
Gas (for car): $3
Electricity: $3
Interest on credit card debt: $3
Water/gas: $2
Coffee: $2
Food consumption: $6 (maybe more)
Dog food, treats: $1
Beer for when I get off work: $8

TOTAL price tag = $87.50 (approx.). And I know there are some more things I'm forgetting at the moment. Life is expensive even when you "think" you're not spending any money at all. It's actually pretty incredible when you sit back and take a moment to think about it.

Has anyone had down payment assistance in California? Or first time buyers program?

I'm fixing my credit. Saving a little bit of money. My partner is doing the same. With the rent prices rocketing in all of California. I've read about down payment assistance and first time buyer programs.
Has anyone purchased a home with any of these? I really don't care about owning the biggest home or in the best neighborhood. I just want an affordable mortgage and decent area to raise my daughter.

Do you need a real estate license to sell prefab homes like those little mock-up 1 room houses people put in back of there homes and use for maybe a family room or music room or handgout. And yes some may even have several rooms it's preety much a house but I think unless it is a actual main house on a lot and needs a mortgage etc then it's basically like selling a shed.

Have a roommate that pays rent and $100 towards utilities (per the contract we agreed upon)?

Summer was great, windows were open, utilities bills were manageable but come winter she keeps turning up the heat to 70 along with turning on the gas fireplace downstairs (no one sits down there) and the electric fireplace upstairs. When she is sitting upstairs she is in a t-shirt and shorts and claims she is freezing. She will only turn on everything when I'm away because when I'm home I like to keep my gas fireplace off downstairs (since no one sits down there) and the heat at 68. When it is turned up to 70 my whole house is extremely warm. Mind you I'm wearing a sweater or something warmer than shorts and a tshirt. How do I approach her with this? I have a feeling she is going to argue that her portion of the rent can be used to pay the bills, but that portion is paying for my other half of the mortgage.
Added (1). I'm just wondering because she thinks she is putting something towards the bills she can put the heat up as high as she wants because she knows I will pay the rest. I own the home and she rents out a room in my house. I took her in because her other roommate was leaving the apt they had and she could not afford to live there. She can only afford $700 total per month (including utilities).

Accidently opened up a line of credit during mortgage underwriting, Will this mess my chances of a loan up?

I was making a purchase off eBay using PayPal while multi tasking and a pop up that looked like a verification screen appeared (name, address, dob, last 4 of ss) and after clicking through everything, I got another pop up congratulating me on my new line of credit. I should have paid more attention but live and learn I guess. I communicated with my loan officer the situation and cancelled the line of credit immediately. She told me to get a copy of cancellation and write a note to the underwriter. I had all this done before the end of business hours, same day. Does this sound like it will cause an issue? Before the mishap I was awaiting final sign off from underwriter after she approved me contingent on a letter of explanation for a deposit which I happily provided.

Should my finances father talk privately to him about our stuff?

We have been together 6 years. Have a 4 year old son and have been living in his grandmother s home for three years. His grandmother passed and away and the house was given to his father who let us stay as long as we pay the real estate taxes. There's no mortgage on this home. We wanted a trampoline and his father said no, we wanted to take off the awning his father said no. Now we want a golden retriever his father said no. I'm a 36 year old ultrasound tech in a hospital and make a good income my fiance is a teacher. We do pretty well. We wanted to discuss purchasing the home from his father so we can be rid of these restrictions and own our home but his father said before we can do that he wants to talk to his son in private about confidential stuff. I think this is obsurd and am ready to flee as I feel threatened and betrayed if he has this conversation behind my back and that we ate a team creating our life together there should be nothing that can't be said in front of both of us. This is causing major problems. My boyfriend tried telling his father we will have the discussion together and his father says it's confidential and nothing to do with me. What are your thoughts and opinions should o be ok with this? I want to leave this family and situation because of this.

Qualifying for a mortgage loan?

My wife and i want to buy a house in the wheeling il area after renting for the past few years. We have a 3 year old daughter and we just want to own. Tired of renting. We both have full time jobs making a combined yearly income of about 67,000 to 69,000 a year. My credit score is about 620 and my wife s score is about 645. The only big bills we have is my car which will be paid off in may, and a school loan that i just consolidated into one. And she has a car that she just bought. We have a couple of secured cards that we ve made all on time payments on and it's really helped us get our credit up. What would be the chances of us getting a loan? I've heard of an FHA loan but i know there's certain requirements that need to be met?
We don't have that much to put down as a down payment, maybe 5,000 at the most. We want to contact a realtor or a mortgage person but don't really know who the right person to contact is. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

To travel or not to travel?

I'm a 26 year old who has recently graduated university. There are 2 scenarios I could follow:

Live at home for a year and save a decent amount of money and pay down a chunk of my mortgage to get ahead financially, get a job in my field of study and Work for a couple years then travel later or;

Spend what savings I have now to go travel in March/April, then come back and work and save, although I probably won't be living at home that long, so saving will be a bit harder later on

From your own personal life experience, what would you recommend to do?

Does home inspection usually overestimate or underestimate repair cost?

I'm in the escrow phase of purchasing my first home. So far I already paid home inspection and termite inspection fee, appraisal fee and other fees associated with mortgage. After the home inspection and termite inspection, I was given a report that the total repair of the home would cost anywhere between 5000-6000 dollars, over 4000 dollars from the termite inspection report due to many damages of siding from dry rot. Other repairs include leaking shower valve, kitchen sink, garage opener not functioning, etc. Since I'm purchasing a home at its listing price which is about 400,000 dollars, I did not expect myself to pay additional 5000 dollars on repairs. So my question is, do home inspection typically overestimate or underestimate repairs?

My real estate agent told me that dry rot on sidings are no big deal, but since the report estimated there are over 4000 dollars worth of damage, I want more opinion before I completely trust my agent.

MORTGAGE APP SUSPENDED. Need advice or others experience please?

We're applying for a VA loan currently, but our app was suspended while in underwriting. We were Pre-Approved and were told there should be no issues because we took all necessary steps to pay down some older credit cards and paid off a charged off card which significantly boosted my husbands credit score. We more than meet their requirements (credit score, debt to income, etc.) but the underwriter was concerned about old accounts that were paid late approx 5-7years ago.

Our loan officer is currently fighting for us and went over the underwriters head to her boss to have them reconsider on the grounds that the accounts that were paid late in the past are accounts from when we were 19-21 years old and newly married on top of welcoming a child into the world and having to PCS (military move) to Hawaii. All of these factors contributed to falling behind on some smaller bills. Anyways, I'll spare the long drawn out version of this. They want additional documents to verify we're better off financially now as well as making rent and car payments on time all the time.

My question is- has anyone had a mortgage loan suspended had a loan suspended and what was the outcome? How worried should I be? Is a suspended loan basically a prolonged denial?

There were about 3-4 months worth of mortgage payments made to my account today by FNMA

The agent I spoke with wasn't sure what it was… He said possibly Fannie Mae, but I have no idea why this payment would have been made? It was the end of the day and the agent never got back to me after he was looking into it, so I'm curious what this was?

I'm worried about my dad. Will he have a secure retirement? Will he have a retirement with no worries?

My dad is recently retired and he has just bought a studio apartment in New York for $120,000. He fully owns this studio, so he has no mortgage or any other debts to worry about. His total savings come to in the region of $200,000. He has invested most of this. So $200,000 is all the money that he has. His annual pension income, plus the annual return on his investments come to $31,000 a year.

Now I know that most people will think that my dad is in a healthy situation with that money and with no debts. But New York is an expensive place to live. He is 66 years old and so he still likes to go out and enjoy life. He has a group of friends which he socialises with. So I want to know is he financially secure in his situation right now or will he struggle a bit? What do you believe his situation to be?

I live in Saskatoon in Canada and I'm just a little worried that the cost of living in New York might limit his life. I want him to enjoy himself at this stage in his life. His retirement should be an enjoyable time, not one with financial worries.

Boyfriend and I are ready to move. We were thinking of getting a loan together and putting a down payment

So I'm applying for loan, and he is my coborrower. Our credit is fair. We don't have any debts or dues.

We're currently renting from a private landlord. She is crazy. We need to move. Getting an apartment seems expensive. We have 2 more couples that want to move and would be willing to split rent for a 3-4bedroom house. My boyfriend and I think it would be in our best benefit to buy a house.

I don't know how mortgages work and even though I'm researching them I still don't really understand.

Let's say we get a loan of 100,000 dollars.
The house we want costs 89,000. What would the mortgage be?

Also we're in our early 20s. I don't feel like this is a mistake, but are we making a mistake? We would like to move to a different state eventually and figure we can sell our mortgage when we're ready if we're able.

New Tax Law 2018: give to charity every other year?

Say you have 30,000 in combined state/local/property tax, 10,000 in mortgage interest deduction, and 4,000 in charitable contributions each year, for two years in a row.

Under 2017 law: 44,000 in deductions (way more than the 13K standard deduction) each year, easy.

Under 2018 law: 10,000 cap on state/local/property, plus 10,000 mortgage, plus 4,000 charity = 24,000 deductions each year, same as standard deduction.

Alternate under 2018 law: give 0 to charity in first year (and take 24,000 in standard deduction), and give 8,000 to charity in second year (and take 28,000 itemized deductions).

Am I seeing this right, did I miss anything?
Added (1). Greg: the biggest chunk of that is property tax, which pays for good schools. Much cheaper than private schools!

Will I Get back on money from my closing costs/house purchase when I file my taxes this year?

Just closed on a house on December 8th in NJ. Down payment + closing costs came out to about $12,000. Is there anything I can do, when I do my taxes, to get money back from this house purchase with closing costs, interests, anything? Asked my mortgage guy but he couldn t tell me. I guess I ll reach out to an accountant to do my taxes going forward cause this stuff really confuses me. Just wondering if anyone here was familiar with this sort of thing.

Thanks

I all my $38,000 in bitcoin when Bitcoin was at $19,000 what should I do?

I bought 2 bitcoin at about $19,000 for $38,000. It included all of my life savings and took out a $10,000 loan.

I thought it would keep going higher and I'd take my money out when it doubled but now I'm down over $11,000!

I feel so bad because I told my wife I only bought a little bit of Bitcoin but she doesn't know I put our savings into it or about the loan yet. I wanted to surprise her when I doubled our money so we could pay our mortgage off sooner.

This is everything I have.
What should I do?

Maybe it will go back up so I can break even.

Added (1). I've recently been looking at house prices and the feasible ones are around £200K, that's crazy money, I only have savings of £8K (took me half a year to get that). Working up to a good credit score before getting a loan is not an option, I'm 32 and never used credit before, it's too late.

How can I get a condo?

I saw a really nice one. I viewed it the very day it was listed. I made an offer the same day. The seller decided to take a cash offer. I had a mortgage approval an everything. I was so crushed. Now I fear I'll never get a condo. How will I get a condo when all they want is to accept cash offers? I fear I'll be stuck in apartments forever.

How do I rent a place cheaply?

I don't mean the price of the place itself, I mean like if it was leased to me or starting a mortgage. How would I rent a room or flat for free? I'm 25 and I want to move out next year by October 2018 cos I'm tired of family home. I want to move on with my life and I think I will probably have a job in my grad field by then. People say you can wait until you're 30 before you leave yet parents for good but I don't see myself as being here any longer than many months more. How could I plan well to secure accommodation cheaply? I have a job at the moment, it's equivalent to minimum wage job and I will go back to do full time 28 hrs at the end of my uni studies around July.
