Advice on emergency preparedness on a budget?

This year has been a nightmare. My husband and I finally closed on a little tiny house we had been saving for and are starting a family. (We had a good, stable job) The rug was pulled out beneath us upon finding out our employers were involved in illegal activity and due to the economy were forced to grab the first job available. They hired both of us and then a month later while we were still recovering, decided to close up shop. So we have wonderful luck! We found out today. I am pregnant, we have a mortgage and winter is here. We will find work, I'm sure, but until then please offer supply advice? We have a tiny bit of money and would like to spend it on preparedness if it takes longer than expected. Cheap foods to stock up on if we can't buy groceries, lanterns if the lights are shut off, etc. We have agreed we will sit in a dark house with Ramen before losing our home. Thank you in advance! :)
