Getting off as a Cosigner for a mortgage?

Is there a way to get my name off of a mortgage as a consigner? I read somewhere I could rip my name off of the deed and hurt my credit or pay a fine and save my credit I'm trying to get out of the house that I was cornered into getting with my mother and now she is a alcoholic and racking up debt and I fear she will pull me down with the ship so to speak…
