Can I write mortgage loans on the side while being an Account Executive and a Lender?

I am an Account Executive at a wholesale lender. I am registered with the NMLS to write mortgages, I just need to get licensed in my state. I would not use the lender that I work for. Would it be legal to write loans on the side as an account executive as my full time job?
