Would you pay mortgage if you own the land and you build your own house on it? Btw its not residential area?

Would I still pay mortgage if you own your land and you build your own house? Its 15 minutes away from the city, so do I have to? Would if even be possible, also what happens when you do pay off a your mortgage of the house?
