Can a collection company come back and take a lien on your property if it was not in original court order?


A recovery collection company took a friend to court for a credit card debt that was 3 yrs old. Friend was asked what he could pay. After a little discussion friend and collection representative agreed on a certain monthly payment. 7 payments have been made, all on time all current. Friend gets a letter last week saying client has placed a lien against his property to further secure the payment. This was not stated in the court ruling or even discussed. Friend has not received any correspondence from court about this or from the mortgage company that already has a lien against it. How or can they do this?
