Im wondering how come income based apartments add on the child support income as well?

My boyfriend and i werent approved bc apparently we make too much money. But im making only 8 an hr with 25cent raises every 6 months 5% commission and tips. & he makes 35k a year. We cant exceed 55k to live there. I also get 300 a month for child support. But why would that be included when clearly thats money for my child?! Is there anyway this woman made a mistake? Also we're looking into another place that cant exceed 58k. Ugh we're really not rich! Just trying to make it by & they're basically telling us we make way too much money. Do i have to put that i get child support? I obviously dont wanna get into trouble but i mean really! That money goes to my daughter. Not for rent lol. So wtf!
