Would it be better to rent an apartment or buy a house?

My boyfriend and I have to stay in his home town the next three years after college. We found a few great homes, but I don't know if I feel comfortable buying a home right out of college especially when we will have to sell it in three years when he goes back to school. The apartments are farther away from both the hospital and schools (where we work) but cost about the same each month. My parents are refusing to help me because I'm moving away from them. I could really use some advice.
