If you're paying property tax on your property does that mean you don't really own yhe property at alll?

I mean let's say you pay off the mortgage then the property is supposedly yours but your still paying tax (which may aswell be rent) to the government. And if you don't pay the government takes it. Does that mean you don't technically own the property at all?
