The affordable health care act and families of disabled veterans?

My husband is a disabled veteran. He works and receives medication from the VA on a monthly basis for his disability, medication that we cannot afford to pay for out of pocket. He was laid off last summer and while he has a new job we cannot afford the two thousand dollar a month no employer contribution insurance plan the new company offered us. We are trying to get health care through the healthcare marketplace and we have been told that because my husband receives benefits from the va we are ineligible. The children and I are ineligible for benefits under any of the va programs, we earn too much for Medicare and buying health insurance from his employer would leave us with just enough money to cover the mortgage and nothing else. If he gives up his benefits so his family can have insurance the insurance likely will not cover his condition, he will never be able to regain his va benefits, and when his condition worsens over the years we Really won t be able to handle the expenses without the va. It s quite apparent that he will have health coverage and the children and I will not be allowed to have insurance that we can actually afford because he was injured during service to his country.
Affordable health care for everyone? Yeah, bite me.
