Do I need to pay my solicitors a bank telegraphic transfer fee for selling my house if I have no mortgage?

I am selling my gran's house as part of her estate and she had no mortgage. The solicitor is asking for a £40 bank transfer fee for getting the money to me from them. I don't understand why this would be the case - why the money is not sent directly to the estate's account from the buyer (or the buyers solicitor) and if it has to go through the solicitor why they can't pay it by BACS for free (and i'll wait for 3 days). Not a huge cost I know but its the principle.

Anyone out there clued up on UK conveyancy shennanigans?
