Why do news websites have dumb ads?


There's always a block of ridiculously stupid advertisements at the bottom of news articles. They try to look like real news articles, but they are so pandering and stupid I can't imagine enough people actually click and buy that the advertisers make their money back. They say things like "banks hate this new mortgage payoff trick" or "scientists call this fruit the holy grail of weight loss" with a closeup of some obscure fruit looking thing, or "Warren buffett just gave americans a big warning" or "drivers surprised they never knew this rule" with a picture of a cop. Why don't they just advertise their product instead of trying to trick people into thinking they're "ahead of the curve" with ridiculous and obvious fake news ads?
