I want to build a new home on some land?!

I want to build a new home on some land?!
Added (1). am new to this process of getting a mortgage and or construction loans. Im a veteran and i know that there are some agencies that offer construction loans. My question is if I have an existing loan on a piece of land could I roll the balance over to a construction loan once I start to build. I was planning on hiring a company to build the house. Any help would be great. Im also a first time buyer, is there any grants available for land purchase for a down payment. Thanks!
