Should we buy a house now or wait a few years?
My husband and I have just been told we can get a mortgage to buy a house worth about ã150,000. We live on the Norfolk / Suffolk border and there are a few small properties that could potentially be quite nice but frankly, we just don t like that much. We currently live in a large (admittedly larger than we need) country cottage that we adore but even if the owner ever did consider selling, would be massively out of our price range and whilst we re aware that we will never get a house to this standard, the drop in our quality of home-life just feels too big just to get on the ladder. I think we should wait 5 or so more years; I ll be higher up my pay band and my husband s business may be earning more by then and we could easily save an extra ã10,000 or so to add to our deposit in that time and could maybe afford a much nicer house than we could now. Most people are advising us though, to just get on the ladder and upgrade our house later on if we want to. The cost of buying and selling is so high though, is that truly worth it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
