Is owning a house as difficult as I think it is?

First off, purchasing. I imagine that it would take forever to scrounge up money to own a house, or pay loans for the house. Secondly, I think that it would take too much to take care of the house, get furniture, and decorate the house. Is it rally as difficult as I'm making it? This is my first year of living on my own in an apartment.
