What really happens after your credit card goes to charge off? Anyone been through it? Do you still get sued? Do you still have to pay?

I'm recently married. We're trying to get a house as first time home buyers with fha loan. My wife is a stay at home mom who's credit has gone bad from us missing payments one two of her cards, although she has many more that are in good standing besides those two. We just want to know if anyone has experienced it or gone through it that if you just decide not to pay and let it go to charge offs on amount that's 4,000 and 3,000 will they most likely do it as their loss and not come after us since they will see she is not working and it's her credit card? I know it hurts your credit, her credit is already damaged so we're not worried about that at the moment we just want to know if we can get away with not paying and be able to save all our money to get a house when we're ready.
