Is it okay to put that I'm single on a mortgage application if I'm married?

I live in CA & I have begun the process for legal separation but I don't know how long that process will take. I would like to get a home loan ASAP. We have been separated for a few years (just not legally separated) & I have been doing my taxes separately as well
